Distance 6km/10 minutes from the chalet.Kamnik is a lovely old town, surrounded by green hills and high peaks of the Kamniske Alps. This popular small town has some good supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, bars, banks, post office and other shops where all provisions can be bought. Bike hire is available throughout the year from the Tourist Information Centre located in the centre of town.The most beautiful part of the town is, no doubt, its old town core with typical narrow streets, decorated by medieval and baroque facades of houses. Up on the hill, right in the centre of the town, there is Mali grad Romanic chapel. Even higher above the town Stari grad, now in ruins, still watches over Kamnik. Among sights, worth seeing, there are two museums - the castle Zaprice and the private Sadnikar museum, and Franciscan monastery with a rich collection of old books and incunabula. Through history Kamnik has been quite successful in keeping its old idyllic look. Today it is also well known for tourist events, such as Dnevi narodnih noš (The National Costumes Festival), which occurs every year in the beginning of September.The towns train station with destinations all across Slovenia and neighbouring countries, will take you into the countries capital Ljubljana within 40 minutes, and it's bus station, situated on the riverside in the heart of the old town, will transport you to all the local attractions without the need of a car.

LAKES BLED AND BOHINJ
Lake Beld is smaller than lake Bohinj, however it's shores are more commercialized with a good selection of shops, restaurants and cafe bars to try the local cuisine or just enjoy a coffee with a stunning view. The much photographed islet, complete with a romantic church, fairytale castle overlooking the lake.
ARBORETUM VOLČJI POTOK
Arboretum Volčji Potok - On the outskirts of Kamnik lies the arboretum, the most visited horticultural amenity in Slovenia, with 80 hectares of gardens and a full programme of seasonal events. There are unique tree and plant collections, a sculpture gallery and garden centre.

Velika Planina - An extensive alpine plateau in the Kamnik Alps. It is one of the largest areas of pastures in Slovenia. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were over 100 shepherds' huts here. They are among the most picturesque alpine dwellings.

Park Tunjice - The village of Tunjice is an idyllic village lying on the Slovenian Alps' foothills, close to the town of Kamnik. Millions of years ago the area was covered by the sea thus, the province is famous for its fossils, sanded marls and high-grade limestone formed in far Miocene.
